NASHVILLE (BP) – The expiration of a one-year provision in the Big Beautiful Bill that defunded Planned Parenthood has pro-life groups and supporters questioning whether their voices are still being heard in defense of the unborn.

President Donald Trump’s reconciliation bill that was signed on July 4, 2025, broughtcelebrationamong those who had worked for years to prevent federal funding to the nation’s leading abortion provider, even if the stipulation was for only one year. However, Planned Parenthood now stands to receive more than $800 million annually.

Those funds come through Medicaid and are specified for non-abortive services. Pro-life leaders, though, argue that they nonetheless bolster Planned Parenthood’s finances and thereby its capability to provide abortions.

“Last summer, the pro-life movement celebrated a historic milestone: the first federal defunding of Planned Parenthood and other large abortion providers,” said Evan Lenow, president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission. “We celebrate the impact this one-year provision had on the lives that were saved and the abortion clinics that permanently closed their doors, but we grieve that its expiration means that Planned Parenthood can now, once again, receive federal reimbursements under Medicaid.”

In numerous meetings he took part in last week in Washington, D.C., Lenow said, he urged lawmakers to take actions that strip “federal funding entirely” from Planned Parenthood and other large abortion providers.

When I was diagnosed at 15 months old, my parents were told I likely would not live to see my second birthday. They were handed devastating predictions. They were given statistics. They were told all the things I would never do.”

This month [June 2026], a lifestyle blogger used Instagram to vlog her late-term abortion. Last month, a YouTuber and his wife used social media to announce the abortion of their child diagnosed with Down syndrome in utero. Each of these online declarations erodes our basic humanity and respect for human life. And they’ve exposed a dark belief among some Americans that a child born with a serious medical condition is less worthy or not worthy of life at all.

As outrageous and heartbreaking as such views are, they are constantly perpetuated and glorified by our culture and our laws. A Missouri judge recently ruled that discriminatory abortions based on gender, sex, or a diagnosis like Down syndrome are permitted in the state. And the YouTuber with millions of subscribers, who chose to abort his baby, expressed hope that next time he would have a “better outcome.”

I have thought about those words and Missouri’s actions constantly. Because what exactly is a “better outcome”?

Abortion estimates released by the Society of Family Planning’s #WeCount project show a slight increase in abortions and highlight how telehealth abortions are undermining state abortion restrictions in the post-Dobbs era.

The#WeCount project report published earlier this month estimated that 1.13 million abortions took place across the United States in 2025. The Society of Family Planning’s (SFP) research initiative stated that the number of abortions in 2025 was slightly higher than it was in 2024.

While the in-person abortion volume appeared to fluctuate from month to month, with monthly numbers in 2025 being lower than in 2024, the report found that the number of telehealth abortions has increased.

More than 300,000 abortions were provided via telehealth, according to the report, which found that, overall, 28% of abortions took place via telehealth.

Telehealth abortions grew from 5% of all abortions in April 2022 to 29% in December 2025. In comparison, 13% of abortions were done via telehealth in 2023, and 22% were done by telehealth in 2024.

A Louisiana man has been arrested after authorities accused him of secretly giving his pregnant teenage daughter abortion-inducing drugs, causing her to go into labor and deliver a premature baby who remains hospitalized.

Jamelle Kelly, 39, of Carencro, allegedly gave the abortion drugs to his 17-year-old daughter without her knowledge or consent, according to local authorities. The teen was later hospitalized and delivered a baby at 23 weeks into her pregnancy.

As of last Friday, the infant, who weighed about 1 pound at birth, remained alive and hospitalized, according to KATC News. Kelly is facing felony charges of attempted first-degree feticide and domestic abuse/battery of a pregnant victim.

An 18-year-old woman died from complications from a second-trimester abortion she obtained at a Colorado Planned Parenthood clinic, according to a newly unredacted autopsy report obtained by pro-life groups after a legal dispute over the release of the records.

On Monday, the pro-life nonprofit law firm Life Legal announced that it and the pro-life activist group Operation Rescue had obtained the unredacted autopsy report of Lexi Arguello.

The teenager was nearly 22 weeks pregnant when she underwent a second-trimester abortion at Planned Parenthood in Fort Collins. Colorado is among nine states and Washington, D.C., that do not impose gestational limits on abortion.

According to the unredacted report, Arguello “died of complications of surgical pregnancy termination, including disseminated intravascular coagulation,” a life-threatening blood-clotting disorder. The report also listed “probable amniotic fluid embolism, refractory shock, and multiorgan failure” as contributing conditions.

In February, Demeter allegedly crushed a mifepristone pill, mixed it with an electrolyte drink mix and gave it to a woman who was about 14 weeks pregnant, causing her to deliver a stillborn baby.

A Texas man has been indicted for allegedly giving a pregnant woman an abortion-inducing drug without her knowledge, resulting in the death of her unborn baby.

A grand jury in Montgomery County has indicted 25-year-old Jon Rueben Demeter on charges of performance of an abortion and injury to a child. Both charges are first-degree felonies and stem from an investigation conducted by authorities with the local sheriff’s office and the district attorney’s office.

Montgomery County District Attorney Mike Holley said in a statement that the case “represents allegations of deliberate deception that resulted in devastating consequences.”

Late last week, a 2-1 ruling by a U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals panel upheld Lefemine’s March 2024 conviction for blocking the door to a Columbia abortion and reproductive services clinic off Forest Drive

Steven Lefemine has quoted the Bible and sung hymns.

In his yearslong quest to overturn a criminal conviction in federal court for blocking a Columbia abortion clinic’s door, he has fought the good fight.

But now man’s law has won — again.

Late last week, a 2-1 ruling by a U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals panel upheld Lefemine’s March 2024 conviction for blocking the door to a Columbia abortion and reproductive services clinic off Forest Drive.

Man’s law was written by Congress and it says, quite simply: You cannot block an abortion clinic door.

That’s why Lefemine was easily convicted in March 2024 in U.S. District Court in Columbia of violating the Freedom of Access to a Clinic Entrances Act, or FACE Act. The act prohibits people from obstructing individuals seeking reproductive health care, and Lefemine did just that.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the U.S. Supreme Court issued an administrative stay that temporarily restores nationwide mail-order access to the abortion pill Mifepristone, which pauses an appeals court order that reinstated a previous rule that the drug be dispensed in-person.

On Friday, the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) must reinstate the in-person requirement for dispensing Mifepristone as the legal case moves through the courts. The Fifth Circuit’s decision temporarily blocked the 2023 FDA rule change that allowed Mifepristone to be distributed through the mail without an in-person medical visit. The three-judge panel of the appeals court ruled unanimously that the state of Louisiana was likely to prevail in its challenge to the pill’s 2023 deregulation adopted by Biden’s administration.

While the Fifth Circuit’s ruling was not a direct nationwide injunction, it had a practical effect nationwide because it tightened the FDA’s previously relaxed mail-order rules that apply in every state.

A pro-life activist has received a seven-figure settlement nearly four years after an early morning FBI raid on his home generated outrage and concern about the federal government’s treatment of pro-life advocates outside abortion clinics.

In a statement published Thursday, the pro-life advocacy group 40 Days for Life Institute of Law & Justice announced that pro-life activist Mark Houck won a settlement of over $1 million nearly four years after the early morning FBI raid on his home generated outrage. Houck, a devout Catholic father of seven, was charged with violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act by the Biden administration in 2022.

The FACE Act subjects anyone who “intentionally injures, intimidates, or interferes with or attempts to injure, intimidate or interfere with any person” who provides or assists in the provision of abortions to federal charges. The charges against Houck stemmed from an incident that took place as Houck and his son prayed outside an abortion clinic in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in October 2021.

While the U.S. Department of Justice alleged that Houck “twice assaulted a man because he was a volunteer reproductive health care clinic escort,” requiring the escort to receive “medical attention,” a fundraiser set up to pay for Houck’s legal expenses told a different story: “Last year, Mark and his son were praying in front of the PP at 12th and Locust. When one of the escorts began harassing Mark’s son they walked down the street away from the entrance to the building. The escort followed them, and when he continued yelling at Mark’s son, Mark pushed him away.”

While a jury acquitted Houck in early 2023, Houck and his wife filed a lawsuit later that year alleging that the DOJ engaged in malicious and retaliatory prosecution, abuse of process, false arrest and assault.

The U.S. Supreme Court has unanimously ruled that New Jersey was wrong to try to force a pro-life pregnancy care center to disclose its private donor information, a violation of its First Amendment rights.

The Supreme Court issued a decision on Wednesday morning in the case of First Choice Women's Resource Centers, Inc. v. Matthew J. Platkin, Attorney General of New Jersey.

Justice Neil Gorsuch authored the 9-0 court opinion, clarifying that the justices “are not asked to decide the merits of First Choice’s federal lawsuit, only whether it may proceed.”

“First Choice has established that the Attorney General’s demand for private donor information injures the group’s First Amendment associational rights,” wrote Gorsuch. “The Attorney General does not dispute much of this.”

“An official demand for private donor information is enough to discourage reasonable individuals from associating with a group. It is enough to discourage groups from expressing dissident views. A government that chooses to make private donor information public may make the damage worse.”

As estimates released by Planned Parenthood's former research arm show that abortion in the United States continues to rise despite the passage of restrictions in many states, pro-life advocates suggest the increasing prevalence of "telehealth" abortions is to blame.

According to data released in a Guttmacher Institute report late last month, an estimated 1,126,000 abortions were performed in the U.S. last year, a slight increase from the estimated 1,124,000 conducted in 2024.

Michael New, a senior associate scholar at the pro-life Charlotte Lozier Institute, told The Christian Post that while the data shows fewer women living in states with strong laws against abortion obtained abortions out of state in 2025, the decline was "more than offset by the increase in women living in pro-life states who obtained telehealth abortions."

"Overall, Guttmacher's data indicated that 91,000 women living in states with strong pro-life laws obtained telehealth abortions in 2025 — an increase of more than 26% over the previous year."

"Overall, telehealth abortions are weakening the strong pro-life laws that many states passed after the Dobbs decision," he continued.

Infamous late-term abortionist Dr. Kermit Gosnell has died, prompting pro-life activists to reflect on his crimes and the state of the pro-life movement.

Gosnell, an abortionist who served more than a decade in prison for killing babies who survived botched abortions, died earlier this month at age 85.

In a Substack post published Monday, filmmakers Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney announced that Gosnell had died in prison as they reflected on the 2018 film they created about his late-term abortion clinic, “Gosnell: The Untold Story of America’s Most Prolific Serial Killer.” Prison officials confirmed his death to The Associated Press.

At the time of his death, Gosnell was serving three consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, handed down in 2013. He later received another 30-year prison sentence on separate charges.

Some Republicans remain consistently pro-life. But under Trump’s lead, the GOP has become an anti-Roe yet pro-choice coalition.

This month, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) introduced a bill to ban the abortion drug mifepristone and revoke the FDA’s approval of it.

In the recent past, few would have been surprised that a socially conservative Republican member of Congress would introduce a bill to restrict abortion pills. Ever since the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved this use of mifepristone in 2000, during the Clinton administration, many pro-life Republicans have wanted to reverse it—especially since mifepristone is now used in more than 60 percent of all abortions in the United States.

But this time, Hawley’s target is not a Democratic administration FDA, but a Republican one. Under President Donald Trump, the FDA has expanded access to abortion pills by approving a second form of mifepristone last October.

During his 2024 presidential campaign, Trump assured voters that he did not support a national abortion ban, and he removed a promise of a human life amendment from the Republican Party platform. Yet at the same time, he frequently took credit for the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade.

While some saw Trump’s mixed signals on abortion as political posturing, the reality may have been more straightforward: Trump and many of his allies have repositioned the Republican Party as a party that is mostly pro-choice—but anti-Roe.

Mothers in England and Wales may be less likely to face criminal charges for ending their own pregnancies up to birth after the House of Lords approved a controversial legal measure on Wednesday (March 18), prompting strong concern from evangelical leaders who say the change weakens protections for women and unborn children.

The upper chamber of the U.K. Parliament voted 185–148 to retain Clause 208 of the Crime and Policing Bill, which would decriminalize women who end or attempt to end their pregnancies at any stage. The provision had previously been approved by the House of Commons in June 2025.

Peers rejected all proposed amendments except one, introduced by Baroness Glenys Thornton, which would pardon women previously convicted or cautioned under the Offences Against the Person Act 1861 for ending their own pregnancies. Because of that amendment, the bill will return to the House of Commons for further consideration.

Speaking during the debate, Dame Sarah Mullally, Archbishop of Canterbury, outlined the Church of England’s position, describing it as one of principled opposition to abortion while acknowledging “limited conditions under which abortion may be preferable to any available alternatives.”

WASHINGTON (BP) – The U.S. Justice Department is fighting Florida and Texas challenges to the safety of the abortion pill mifepristone, compounding the Trump administration’s resistance to pro-life challenges by at least four other states.

In addition to the federal challenges, Jewish plaintiffs in a class-action lawsuit secured a preliminary injunction March 5 blocking enforcement of Indiana’s abortion ban, arguing that the ban violates Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA). Jewish plaintiffs argued that their religious beliefs deem life begins when babies take their first breath after birth, and that the life of the mother takes precedence over the life of the unborn child.

The Indiana ruling only applies to the certified class and the unnamed plaintiffs in the lawsuit.

In the Trump administration’s filings, the Justice Department asked a Texas federal district court on March 13 to either stay or dismiss Florida and Texas challenges to mifepristone, arguing that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is reviewing the drug’s safety. The federal filing follows the administration’s active attempts to stay or dismiss similar challenges to mifepristone in Louisiana, Missouri, Idaho and Kansas.

“Given this widespread debate over the safety of mifepristone, FDA has concluded that the best path forward is for the agency to undertake a new review based on the evidence before the agency,” the Justice Department said in its March 13th filing in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. “At this time, ‘FDA continues to work on the collection of the robust and timely data that is necessary for a well-controlled study with adequate statistical power.”

The Southern Baptist Ethics & Religious Commission (ERLC) said the federal government should allow the state action to proceed.

For the second year in a row, state Sen. Mike Moon, an Ash Grove Republican, is sponsoring a proposed constitutional amendment that would treat embryos as people, potentially exposing abortion patients and providers to murder charges and eliminating rape and incest exceptions.

Wes Groggins didn’t mince words when he testified to a Missouri Senate committee Monday in support of legislation expanding legal protections for embryos.

The executive director of Abolish Abortion Missouri invoked the Bible’s Old Testament in his justification that anyone who has an abortion or assists someone in accessing an abortion should be charged with murder.

“God demands equal justice,” he said, “equal protection for all persons.”

For the second year in a row, state Sen. Mike Moon, an Ash Grove Republican, is sponsoring a proposed constitutional amendment that would define “person” as including “every human being with a unique DNA code regardless of age, including every in utero human child at every stage of biological development from the moment of conception until birth.”

FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX 56) — Two Kentucky House representatives have filed a bill that, if signed into law, would allow mothers who carry out abortions to be prosecuted for murder.

Introduced to the House Committee on Feb. 24, the “Prenatal Equal Protection Act (PEPA)” would add new sections to state law that would allow unborn children to be prosecuted as homicide victims.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit accusing abortion drug provider Aid Access of illegally shipping abortion drugs into the Lone Star State, which bans the use of abortion drugs to terminate pregnancy.

A complaint filed Tuesday in the District Court of Galveston County, Texas, alleged that Aid Access and its associates are overseeing “an international abortion-by-mail enterprise that illegally ships abortion-inducing drugs into Texas in open defiance of Texas law.”

Aid Access was founded by Dutch physician Dr. Rebecca Gompers in 2018 and has provided abortion drugs online for women in the United States, especially those living in states with abortion bans in place.

“Aid Access’s illegal acts in Texas are not theoretical — they have already caused the deaths of unborn children across the state,” reads the complaint. “Aid Access is a notorious part of a growing network of out-of-state abortion traffickers that deliberately target Texas residents and defy this State’s duly enacted protections for unborn children and their mothers.”

The suit alleges that Aid Access violates the Human Life Protection Act, Texas’ prohibitions on mailing abortion-inducing drugs, and state prohibitions on the unlicensed practice of medicine found in the Texas Occupations Code and the Texas Health and Safety Code.
